AT-KABUL: Foundation of Hamid Karzai marked 90th anniversary of late professor and academician Abdul Ahmad Jawid in Kabul on Monday, with the participation of scores of Afghan political and cultural officials, tribal elders and university lecturers.
A prominent contemporary cultural author of Afghanistan, Professor Jawid was born in 1926 in Bagh-e-Ali Mardan, Kabul. He studied literature in Kabul university after completing preliminary education at Habibia high school. He earned two bachelor degrees in literature and law and consequently became a Kabul university lecturer. He was also the Chancellor of Kabul University for a period and wrote many books on culture and Dari literature.
Speaking at a ceremony held on the occasion, former president Hamid Karzai said that it was a great pleasure to commemorate anniversary of a cultural celebrity of the twentieth century. He praised the cultural works of the late academician and we must be proud of our language and struggle best to make it more famous. He said that some cultural works of professor Jawid was published and some other remained unpublished, which must be published.
Pointing to Jawid’s exemplary works, he said that the foundation will publish his book “the scent of peace”, because “nowadays we are in dire need of peace and people should read such books”.
“We never talk about our culture and nation nor read about them. And unfortunately the educated youth study foreign cultures,” he said, urging all the youth to work on their own culture.
Executive Chief of Hamid Karzai Foundation Rangin Dadfar Spanta said that beside celebrating anniversary of academicians and cultural figures, the foundation has started an initiative to send eligible you on scholarships abroad.
