AT News Report-KABUL: The Independent Election Commission said Sunday it was prepared to hold the 2019 presidential election, amid several criticisms by the parliament over the incapability of the commission to hold elections.
Abdul Badie Sayyad, head of the commission rejected concerns over the delay in holding the election, saying the commission has already started working on the presidential election.
“We have already established a committee that is responsible of the presidential election and it has started works. We will be fully prepared for the election,” Sayyad said, while designating October 20 as date for holding the parliamentarian election.
Sayyad said that voters’ registration would begin next week and would last one month. He added that the essential materials had been transported to nine provinces and were being sent to 11 more provinces.
President Ashraf Ghani had earlier emphasized that the presidential election would be held timely in 2019.
Head of senate, Fazl Hadi Muslimyar emphasized that the elections should be held transparently and timely.
“Election is necessary for the people and the senate also wants election. We support the election and want the election commission to hold it timely and transparently,” he said.
