AT News Report-KABUL: Afghan transport minister who partook in a major trade meeting in Uzbekistan has discussed extending trade cooperation with leading Uzbek corporations. Minister Mohammad Hamid Tahmasi and the companies’ representatives discussed trade, economic, transport and communication cooperation.
A statement from the transport ministry said all sides agreed to continue construction work on Mazar-i-Sharif and Herat the railway. They also stressed on the need for drafting a feasibility study for the project to lure more financing for the mega project.
The meeting was hosted by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Trade involving leaders of joint-stock companies including Uzavtotrans, O`rtaOsiyo Trans, Uztrade and Uzasanoateksport.
All sides also agreed upon transporting Afghan products from Mazar-i-Sharif to Kashgar through Uzbekistanusing the new Tashkent-Andijan-Osh-Kashgar road corridor, maintenance and repair of Afghan aircraft on the Uzbekistan Airways Technics, as well as participation in training of highly qualified specialists in the field of aviation.
They also discussed timely implementation of contracts that boost trade turnover to $1 billion in coming years. Implementation of agreements signed during the official visit of President Ashraf Ghani to Uzbekistan in December 2017 was also stressed. A major agreement was also reached to equip the Termez Cargo Centre with sorting and packing lines for the purpose of processing and exporting fruit and vegetables from Afghanistan to other countries.
