AT News Report-KABUL: The ministry of energy and water said on Tuesday that the International Solar Alliance has called on Afghanistan to join the organization.
The Indian-initiated organization is aimed at boosting solar generation in more than 120 countries, and raising a fund of $1 trillion for future solar power, storage and technology across the world. The alliance was founded in 2015 by India, and has 62 member countries, 32 of whom having ratified the treaty.
Minister of energy Ali Ahmad Osmani said alliance’s program director Rakesh Kumar officially invited Afghanistan to join the organization, during a dialogue on the sidelines of International Energy Forum in New Delhi.
The government is planning to inject more resources on developing renewable energy, said Osmani, adding that Afghanistan has a great potential for solar power projects. He said Afghanistan and the International Solar Alliance have agreed upon arranging a meeting of their representatives to accelerate the process of Kabul’s joining the alliance.
