China-India’s Afghanistan projects benefit region

AT-KABUL: Afghan government believes that China and India’s big economic projects are not only in the benefit of Kabul, but also the region would enjoy them.

India and China reportedly reached agreement over implementing big economic projects in Afghanistan in Indian prime minister’s recent visit to Beijing. They are said to work for improving bilateral relations through these projects.

“Launching or supporting big economic projects here is not only in the benefit of Afghanistan, but it is also in benefit of the entire region,” said Mosafer Qoqandi, spokesman for ministry of commerce and industries. “We welcome such projects that will be launched based on Afghan priorities.”

Nobody from the three countries has yet elaborated the projects.

New Delhi had earlier expressed concerns over the forming of an economic corridor between China and Pakistan that was to be expanded to Afghanistan. It was not happy with another Chinese project ‘One Belt One Road’ that is supposed to link several regional nations.

This is not yet clear whether Beijing and New Delhi have agreed over projects that Afghanistan is planned to be a part of that or some other projects to be launched inside their own countries.

In Afghanistan, traders and economic experts believe that joint efforts by great economic powers would pave the ground for further development, instead of unsound competitions.

“China and India had been living in a dark relationship in the past. Such big agreements and understandings that help the launch of big projects in Afghanistan can beef up their relations and support Afghanistan. This also encourages businessmen from the two countries to invest in Afghanistan,” said Etebar Khan Zadran, an official at the chamber for commerce and industries.

Also, Afghan Ambassador to New Delhi said the agreement would help economy and security in Afghanistan.
