28 insurgents killed in raids

AT-KABUL: At least 28 militants have been killed and 14 others received injuries in multiple extensive military crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security officials said on Wednesday.

In a press release issued here, the Ministry of Defense (MoD), said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Ghazni, Kandahar, Urzgan, Herat, Nimroz, Balkh, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab, Baghlan, Takhar and Helmand provinces, in which 28 insurgents killed and 14 others wounded.

Afghan National and Defense Security Forces (ANDSF) shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces during the operation.

During these operations, 12 Taliban fighters were killed in Dawlat Abad district of Faryab–seven insurgents killed and four others wounded in Dasht-e-Qala district of Takhar–and four militants killed and a vehicle belonged to the enemy destroyed in Chamtal district of Balkh province.

Similarly, two rebels were killed and five others wounded in Maiwand district of Kandahar, and two Taliban fighters killed and same others wounded in Panjshirian area of Jawzjan province. Other operations which took place in Nangarhar, one insurgent killed, three others wounded and two motorbikes belonged to the enemy destroyed in Khogiani district of the province.

During period, nine designed clearing operations besides six Special Forces operations were lunched in different provinces. The Air Forces also carried out 87 aerial operations in a bid to support the Afghan National Army with firing five strikes on the enemy’s sanctuaries.

In part of clearing operation, the ANA also covered and confiscated weapons and ammunition belonging to the militant outfits.
