By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: At least 11 people were killed and 10 others wounded after Daesh militants staged a stabbing rampage on the education department in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday morning, officials said.
Two Daesh-linked terrorists raided the provincial education department in 5thpolice district in Jalalabad at around nine o’clock in the morning, said Nangarhar Spokesman Attaullah Khogiani. Shortly after the attack, Afghan security forces reached the area and started a counterattack to tame the situation, he added.
First the security forces had evacuated the building near the attacked education office and then they struggled to conducted clearance operation carefully on education office in order to rescue trapped people safely.
He said all the two attackers were killed after two hours long clashes with Afghan forces and 20 trapped people were rescued safely. He said that 11 people all employees of the urban education office including head of the office Suleiman Pacha were killed. He said that10 others including five office employees, three security personnel, a student and a laborer were wounded in the incident. Five wounded people have been discharged from the hospital after primary treatment, he added.
Nangarhar Governor Hayatullah Hayat, while expressing deepest condolence with the victims’ family, said that such Daesh attack over education center, where only people children are under training without any political activity is an unforgivable, inhuman and anti-Islam act.
It is pertinent to mention that around one month ago four Daesh fighters had also attacked Provincial education directorate of Nangarhar, where all attackers were killed and no individuals harmed in the incident. In the past two weeks several bombast and terrorist activities carried out in Jalalabad city which resulted in killing and wounding of dozens of people in the province.
