AT-KABUL: At least 54 insurgents were killed in clashes that erupted on Monday between Taliban assailants and security forces after they ambushed a heavy military convoy en route to northern Maimana city of Faryab province.
Shaheen Military Corps Spokesman Hanif Rezaee said that Afghan army conveys were on the way to Maimana, while faced Taliban ambush in Chehlgazi area of Ghormach district in Faryab and clashes started.
He said that 54 Taliban fighters were killed and 15 others wounded during clashes.
He said that unfortunately three army soldiers were killed and five others wounded.
One ranger vehicle of the army was torched during clashes, he noted.
He said that the army convey passed the threaten area and reached to Qaisar district.
Meanwhile Ministry of Defense confirmed clashed between army and Taliban in Chehlgazi area and said that Afghan army with the support of air forces pushed back the ambush and also incurred heavy casualty to the enemy in the area.
