AT-KABUL: The government claims that several terrorist groups were active under the leadership of Taliban in Afghanistan, saying if Taliban accept to join the peace talks, other groups would be gradually eliminated.
“We will make peace with the Afghan Taliban, but our fight will continue against other terrorist groups such al-Qaeda and the Daesh terrorist group. The level of security threat will decrease, because Taliban are providing the main opportunity for them,” said Ghafoor Javid, spokesman of defense ministry.
Some US media have claimed that Afghan government could not bring sustainable peace to the country even by peace deal with Taliban, because there are 21 more terrorist groups there including the Daesh, al-Qaeda, Haqqani network and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.
President Ashraf Ghani had also confirmed earlier that more than 20 terrorist groups were active in Afghanistan.
The government is seeking ways to lead it to dialogues with Taliban and is more optimistic to the talks with the insurgent group.
Security experts say that other armed groups were posing threats besides the Taliban as the main one. “Peace with Taliban will decrease the war in the country, but to put an end to the war, we need a regional and an international consensus,” said Ajmal Sayes, a security analyst.
Meanwhile, the High Peace Council Spokesman, Sayed Ehsan Taheri, calls Taliban as the main side of the peace talks with the government, rejecting talks with other groups.
Though the Taliban are yet to answer the government’s demands over the talks, but people and government officials are hopeful for talks and then a durable peace.
