AT-KABUL: The Free and Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan (FEFA) believes that the Independent Election Commission (IEC) is not able to fulfill its commitments over preventing electoral fraud.

“We cannot assess these subjects with individuals and we need to make a mechanism and make pre conditions for the frauds. I think the candidates’ expense will be more than the commission has determined and these commitments will not be fulfilled because of the commission’s weak strategies and will be left on paper pages,” Yousuf Rashid, head of FEFA said Saturday, adding that the election commission was responsible to consider equality and justice during electoral campaigns and punish the violators.

The election commission says it fined 52 candidates for violating the law on the first day of campaign (Friday, September 28^th).

The parliamentary election campaign officially began on Friday in 33 provinces except Ghazni province and will end two days before the election (October 20^th).

Rafi Rafiq Seddiqi, head of the media commission of the election commission said these people were fined from 30,000 to 100,000 Afghanis. He criticized the media outlets for making interviews with candidates before the start of campaign, calling that a violation of law.

The expense of each candidates was determined 2,600,000 Afghanis and spending more is called violation of law along bothering other candidates, using government’s sources, disordering public order, ethnic, linguistic and religious discriminations.

“Once again, I would like to announce that violations will be followed by punishments. A ten-people group is evaluating the expense of candidates and those who violate the law, will be punished,” said the commission’s spokesman, Sayed Hafizullah Hashemi.
