AT Monitoring Desk-NATO says it will provide additional security during Afghanistan’s parliamentary elections, amid increasing attacks in the country ahead of this month’s polls.

Commander of US and NATO’s Resolute Support Mission Gen. Austin Miller on Thursday at a gathering in Panjshir province said the coalition forces will be helping Afghan security and defense forces maintain tight security during elections, Zamannews reported Friday.

“When I depart this time, I hope to leave a peaceful and unified Afghanistan,” Miller asserted, “I want to be very clear; you have our support and our commitment.”

Resolute Support had previously expressed prepared to stand by the Afghan forces in their quest to tighten security during polls.

In the gathering, governor of Panjshir Kamaluddin Nizami remarked that the province is bordered by insecure Kapisa, Baghlan and Nuristan provinces and insurgents are struggling to permeate into Panjshir from these provinces to disrupt security.

“There are insecure provinces in our neighborhood and the enemy has been trying to destabilize our province,” he said. Panjshir officials urged Miller to provide more equipment and support to security forces in the province to enable them to address any threats against them.
