AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Independent Election Commission (IEC) said Wednesday that election campaign of all Wolesi Jirga hopefuls across the country would come to an end on next Wednesday 48 hours before the polling day.
IEC Spokesman Hafizullah Hashimi briefing newsmen said that no candidates would be able to do campaigning for elections after Wednesday, Zamannews reportet.
Hinting toward transparency in the national process of voting, he said that 53,000 election observes would be engaged in monitoring staffing during Election Day.
According to him election observes from more than 53 institutions would help IEC in this.
“Will receive elections monitoring cards on Tuesday, and on Wednesday campaigns will be stopped.”
Moreover, he called on election runners to refrain from tearing candidates posters.
At least 2,500 candidates are contesting the election, and forthcoming election seen as a test run for next year’s presidential vote that has been beset by challenges for months.
On Tuesday a young parliamentary candidate was among eight people killed in a suicide attack in the southern Helmand province.
The bomber blew himself up inside Salem Mohammad Achakzai’s office in Lashkargah city—eleven others were wounded.
His death take the number of candidates killed in targeted attacks to six, AFP reports.
