KABUL: Aprominent leader of the Talibanhas surrendered to security forces in Afghanistan’s northern province of Jawzjan, the military said.
The military’s 209th Shaheen Corps on Wednesday confirmed prominent leader of Taliban faction,Qudratullah,has turned himself in to Afghan forces in Qush Tepa district.
According to a statement released by 209th Shaheen Corps, Qudratullah,a resident of Mughal village of Darzab district, is one of the Taliban’s key leaders in Jawzjan.
He surrendered to the Afghan forces in Qush Tepa district at around 12:30 pm local time on Tuesday afternoon.
He also handed over a motorcycle and an Ak-47 assault rifle to the security forces, the statement said.
Jawzjan had been among the relatively secure provinces in North of Afghanistan but the security situation in some of its districts has deteriorated during the recent years.
Both the Taliban and militants affiliated with ISIS Khurasan have been attempting to expand their foothold in this province.
