KABUL: Russia expressed optimism about resumption of peace negotiations between the US and Taliban to help in bringing the conflict to a peaceful resolution.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, has said that Moscow was positive about the resumption of talks on the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.
This is as US Special Representative for Afghanistan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad is expected to travel to Moscow next month.
“He wants to meet us. We are largely ready to have a meeting with him in Moscow,” Kabulov told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
Russia is planning to hold another meeting on Afghanistan, but the date is yet to be finalised, according to the envoy, who believed the negotiations were still in infancy and the course remained unpredictable.
