AT-KABUL: The Hezb-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Mardom-e-Afghanistan (Islamic Unity of Afghan People’s Party), a political party led by the second chief executive deputy rejected his dismissal by President Ashraf Ghani as violating the political agreement.
President Ghani on Thursday, sacked Mohaqiq, a powerful politician from his post as deputy chief executive, without elaborating.
Mohaqiq was shared the power along the chief executive Abdullah after a political deal brokered by then US secretary of state John Kerry to break a deadlock following the 2014 presidential election.
The party said Friday that Mohaqiq would continue his work.
Mohammad Nateqi, the party’s second man warned in a gathering of Mohaqiq’s supporters in Kabul that if the president would not take back his decision regarding the dismissal, they would consult with other political parties over an interim administration, an alternative that could unseat Ghani as president.
Nateqi claimed that Ghani had violated the political agreement 28 times since the national unity government was established in September 2014, adding that the president was not authorized to depose Mohaqiq based on the agreement.
He went on to accuse the government of failing to manage the July presidential elections, urging that an interim administration should lead the affairs for better holding elections.
President Ghani seems to rely on the constitution’s article 64 to sack Mohaqiq, but head of the monitoring body of the government’s political agreement, said the entire government was shaped based on a political agreement.
He accused Ghani of violating the agreement 28 times, warning they would refer to the nation for a countrywide protest in case the violation continues.
