KABUL: The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock following its efforts to irrigate lands in Laghman province, has irrigated 4,235 acres of lands during the next Afghan year in the province.
Jamil Khoshhal, head of provincial agriculture department of Laghman province, said that one of the projects implemented is the construction of dented canal protection wall in Qarghaee district of Laghman, which irrigates 3,500 acres of lands.
The project has cost a total of 3.2 million Afs, benefiting 890 families.
Khoshal said that the other project is PASAG project which irrigates 125 acres of lands. The project has cost a total of five million AFs, benefiting 430 families.
The Canal Tangi project is the other project implemented in the outgoing Afghan year. The project irrigates 610 acres of lands and has cost a total of 1.8 million Afs, from which 540 families in Dawlat Shah Kot district get benefit.
Khoshhal said that the implementation of the projects, along with benefiting people, prevents destruction of lands and facilities by flood.
The construction of two irrigation canals was completed in
Laghman province.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock completed construction of
Qala-e-Mir and Mirak Qala irrigation canals through On Farm Water Management
Program (OFWMP).
These canals irrigate 680 acres of land and provide facilities to 1,000
families directly and indirectly.
The construction of these canals, along with the preventing water loss,
simplifies the irrigation process, increases the yield and improves the quality
of the production of these lands.
The project is to be implemented at a cost of 8,875,834 Afs, provided from the
ministry’s budget.
