AT-KABUL: Deputy chief executive Mohammad Muhaqiq accuses President Ashraf Ghani of opposing the ongoing peace efforts, saying that the president doesn’t want peace to be established to keep his position.
Muhaqiq who was addressing his supporters on Friday in Kabul, said that Ghani was thinking how to protect his power rather than thinking of peace, adding that this is why the president did not make efforts to bring peace to the war-torn country.
President Ghani fired Muhaqiq last week from his post as deputy chief executive without making clear statements.
But Muhaqiq said that Ghani was not authorized to dismiss him according to an agreement based on which the national unity government was formed in 2014. He accused Ghani of turning to a dictator.
President Ghani has repeatedly said that he was ready for any sacrifices to get the country out of the current crisis.
Muhaqiq said that there were increasing efforts regionally and internationally for the peace in Afghanistan. “Peace will come whether the president wants or not.”
He added that he was continuing talks with the president to convince him that he was not authorized to dismiss him as deputy chief executive.
Muhaqiq also said that he was working to promote the Behsood district to a province. Behsood is a district in Wardak province and Muhaqiq says it would promote as a province by the establishment of the new government.
President Ghani is reported to have been in severe opposition with the US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad over his efforts to help put an end to the long war and bring peace to Afghanistan after the 18-year long US military presence.
