AT-KABUL: At least 10 civilians have been killed in a clash erupted between Taliban fighters and the residents of Darah Sof Payan district of northern Samangan province, provincial official said Monday.
Provincial governor spokesman, Siddiq Azizi confirmed the fight, saying it occurred on Sunday at around 11:00 local time in Gola village. “The clash erupted after Taliban tried to get taxes (zakat) from the villagers.”
It lasted for two hours, Azizi said, in which 10 local residents including a woman were killed and eight other received injures. “Seven Taliban militants were also killed in the fight.”
Security forces reached the area on Monday morning, said Azizi, adding the village has been safeguarded by the local residents.
However, there is no immediate word regarding the fight from the extremist group of Taliban.
