“No alternative and substitute to a State-centric peace negotiation”
KABUL: Chinese Ambassador Liu Jinsong on Sunday met former Interior Minister and former head of NDSAmrullah Saleh and discussed the Afghan peace process and current international issues.
“Ambassador Liu Jinsong discussed current international issues and the Afghan peace process with Mr. Saleh, former Interior Minister and former head of NDS, in a cordial setting yesterday,” the Chinese Embassy in Kabul said in a tweet on Monday.
In his twitter account, Amrullah Saleh touted his discussion with Ambassador Liu Jinsong. Saleh reiterated his stance on peace talks, saying “no alternative and substitute to a State-centric peace negotiations”, referring to a platform for peace talks led and owned by the Afghan people.
Saleh said; “We shouldn’t allow terrorists to divide our views; Terrorists are equally bad whether they kill citizens of the rich countries or citizens of poor countries.”
Last week, the United States and the Taliban wrapped a week-long strenuous negotiation on Afghanistan’s peace, with speculations that Washington and the insurgents may have partially reached certain agreements on a US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan and a possible cessation of fighting by the belligerents.
China, as a key ally of Afghanistan, assumes high importance in the peace process in the war-battled country.
