KABUL: A number of senate say they do not think that Taliban insurgents give positive response to President Ashraf Ghani’s offer over opening office in Kabul and some other provinces.
President Ghani said Sunday in a meeting with people in Nangarhar province that he would be ready to sacrifice his life for a peace with honor in Afghanistan. He added that he would allow Taliban to open office in Kabul or any other area that they want and to provide their security.
“The comments made by Mr. President in Nangarhar were positive measures to bring peace to Afghanistan just if Taliban realize them and hold peace talks with the government. But so far, the insurgents have given positive answer to none of Ghani’s requests and offers,” said Faisal Sami, a member of senate.
He accused the militants of independency in their decisions.
Separately, Sohail Shahin spokesman for Taliban’s political office in Qatar has said that their negotiators called their office to be officially recognized in last week’s meeting held in Moscow.
He also accused Ghani of trying to divert the subject and hurt peace efforts.
Another senator, Saleh Mohammad Saleh says that the government first needs to reach an agreement over peace and then should offer for office.
Taliban underestimate Ghani’s government as “US puppet”.
“I think it would be better for Taliban to have an office inside the country when their security is guaranteed by the government and international community,” said Naser Shafiq, a political analyst.
