KABUL: Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah in a meeting with the US envoy for Afghan peace urged that nothing was as important for Afghans as “putting an end to the four-decade war”.
The chief executive office said in a statement that the meeting took place on Sunday in Kabul, with Khalilzad providing details about his visits to the regional and world states as well as developments over the peace negotiations.
The statement quoted Abdullah as saying that peace and stability are the people’s old demands. He also emphasized on the Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace negotiations to gain a lasting peace with honor.
Abdullah had earlier called Taliban as “main obstacle” before peace in Afghanistan and the group was seeking privileges rather than real peace talks.
Khalilzad is scheduled to hold his fifth round of talks with Taliban negotiators in Qatar to encourage them join the peace process.
