KABUL: The first truck convoy that headed to Europe through Lapis Lazuli has arrived back in Herat province, carrying oil, medicines and batteries used for the solar energy.
Provincial officials said that five trucks which had left Afghanistan some two months ago, arrived back in the province on Monday.
Afghan businessmen are optimistic to the Lapis Lazuli, saying the road would help their trade expansion and would introduce Afghan goods to the international markets.
They praise the government for opening the road that they believe it could increase commercial relations with different countries and would save the country from long-term isolation.
Provincial Governor, Abdul Qayyoum Rahimi, said the Lazuli Way was one of government programs to decrease Afghanistan’s reliance to other states and save it from their limitations.
The Lazuli Way begins from Aqina port and passes Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Georgia to reach Turkey.
