KABUL: In the midst of the controversial peace talks, head of the high peace council’s secretariat Mohammad Umer Daudzai urged on persevering of freedom of speech in the peace process.
Daudzai who was speaking with head of Afghan media outlets on Sunday, said that the high peace council would maintain achievements gained during the past two decades with the freedom of speech part the achievements.
He called some shifts in the international and regional policies from war to peace as a good opportunity for Afghan peace process.
Daudzai said that convening of Loya Jirga was important for talks over peace with the Taliban.
This comes as President Ashraf Ghani had earlier called for Loya Jirga to facilitate national consensus over peace process. The Jirga is slated to be held for three days beginning in the mid-March with some 4,000 representatives from across the country to seek way for a lasting peace.
Former President, Hamid Karzai has repeatedly emphasized that Loya Jirga is the only option that can resolve problems particularly regarding peace.
