KABUL: The government of China has called on international community to lend supports to the peace push by the Afghan government in a bid to promote political dialogue to bring Taliban group to the table of talks.
Wu Haitao, the charge d’affaires of China’s permanent mission to the United Nations, told the Security Council that all should promote political dialogue in the country.
“We call on all parties in the country to put their national interests first and seize the important opportunity of political reconciliation and embark on the path of peace,” he remarked.
The international community should support an inclusive Afghan-led, Afghan-owned political process and back the government in developing a comprehensive and actionable roadmap for political reconciliation, he added.
Wu asked the international community to honor its commitment by sustaining its firm support to Afghanistan as durable peace and development in the country would not only benefit the Afghan people, but also regional security, stability, peace and prosperity.
He also asked for efforts to facilitate the holding of the presidential election. “We hope the new Independent Election Commission will scale up its preparations for the election.
“We also hope that UNAMA will provide technical support to the commission,” said Wu, referring to the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.
Currently, talks between US and Taliban representatives going on in Qatar to end the decade long war. Though the Taliban group time and again rejected to sit in talks with the Afghan government, but Afghan official says only intra-Afghan talks would lead to a lasting peace.
