KABUL: Afghan spy agency says at least four civilians have been released from a Taliban prison in southern Helmand province after a rescue operation carried out by its operatives on Tuesday.
National Directorate of Security (NDS) Special Unit conducted a preemptive crackdown in Khansheen district of the province, targeting strongholds and a prison of Taliban insurgents, in which four civilians freed form captivity, NDS said in a statement.
The rescued people identified as Mohammad Aref, Mohammad Nabi, Mohmmad Khan and Gul Noor.
“The targeted strongholds and the prison belonged to Taliban military in-charge in the district Mullah Mubarak,” the statement added.
Two strongholds, three vehicles and two motorbikes also destroyed in the operation.
Moreover, three PK-machineguns, seven Ak-47, two rifles of rocket with some other ammunition discovered and seized by NDS operatives in the area, the statement added.
