KABUL: Flash floods in several provinces of Afghanistan have killed at least 41, while more than 30 people wounded, a number of people still missing and several houses partially and completely damaged in the disaster triggered by torrential rains, official said Monday.
“According to latest reports, number of killed people have jumped to 41, while 39 more wounded from recent floods across the country,” Spokesman for State Ministry for National Disaster Management, Hashmat Khan Bahaduri said.
According to him, eight people were killed in Herat, eight in Badghis, 12 in Faryab, five in Balkh, four in Sar-e-Pul, two in Jawzjan and two more in Ghor provinces due to floods caused by heavy rains.
He put another eight people in missing list due to 28-29 of March’s floods. “Despite searching operations, our rescue team have so far failed to find the missing people.”
According to report, over 5,000 houses were completely or partially destroyed in seven western and northwestern provinces of the country, he mentioned.
He said those poor villagers, who had already lost thousands of their livestock during last year’s severe drought, now have been scrambling with another tragedy as they have lost 7,780 animals in the recent flash floods.
