46 Afghan refugees arrested in Peshawar

AT News Report

KABUL: As many as 46 Afghans have been arrested who don’t have legal stay documents in Peshawar after police launched a campaign to arrest or deport them, Pakistani media reported Wednesday.

The held Afghans neither had passports nor the proof of registration cards issued to the refugees to legalese their stay in Pakistan.

They arrested Afghans were also accused of being involved in criminal activities.

A source said that apart from millions of refugees and those who visit Pakistan on visas, there are a large number of Afghans living in Peshawar who do not possess documents. There were scores of families which have acquired Pakistani computerized national identity cards.

A police official in Peshawar said 46 Afghans who did not have legal documents would be produced before the court and deported to Afghanistan.

However, many Afghans living in Peshawar and other parts which comes under Durned Line control is not considering as Pakistan territory rather it belongs to Afghanistan and to the Afghan masses.

Years ago, June 28 of 2016, A Pashtun leader Mahamood Khan Achakzai has said that he would not allow anyone to harass Afghan refugees in their “own land”. He directly said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province belongs to Afghans and they can live there without fear and irritation.

“If Afghans are harassed in other parts of Pakistan, they should come here to the Pakhtunkhwa province, where no one can ask them for refugee cards, because it also belongs to them,” Achakzai who leads the Pakhtunkhwa Millie Awami Party said.

Putting pressure on Afghan refugees is not a new thing as in the past Pakistan was also hostile to refugees, where a large number of Afghan refugees returned home to avoid Pakistan forces harassment.

Moreover, Afghan refugees were detained and kept in custody for several days without committing crimes.
