KABUL: Any sorts of pressure on the government in a bid to act illegal in regards to the current peace push is not acceptable, President Ashraf Ghani told a gathering of civil society members and journalists organized at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday evening.
“The peace talks are without conditions but peace has conditions and the Afghan nation will set the limits for the talks. It will not be acceptable for us if there is pressure on us to act illegally,” TOLON News reported, quoting Ghani as saying.
He said government has agreed with the United States to have
detailed discussions on every issue that the Afghan people are concerned about
in the context of peace.
Ghani warned that the security forces will defend the country as long as peace
talks reach a result.
“We cannot surrender to anyone and as long as the peace talks do not reach a
result, we will defend our soil with dignity,” Ghani said.
Ghani said the emphasize is on a ceasefire and on providing conditions for
comprehensive talks.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said the Afghan people have become
tired of the ongoing war and they see looking forward a long-lasting peace to
be prevailed in the country.
