KABUL: The visit of Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah to Jordan has created new hopes for broadening Afghanistan’s business with more countries, the chief executive spokesman says.
Abdullah made a two-day trip to Amman to attend the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa. He met with Jordanian officials as well as officials from some other countries at the sidelines of the forum, emphasizing on widening economic ties with Afghanistan, his spokesman Feraidoon Khozon said.
“A delegation from the chamber of commerce and industries is supposed to visit Jordan to talk about expansion in cooperation and commercial deals with the country’s officials. They will ask for Jordanian investments in Afghanistan,” Khozon said Tuesday.
Abdullah has assured international companies who are interested in investing in Afghanistan of their security. He told reporters that Jordan was a good market for Afghanistan’s dried fruit, talc stone, carpet and saffron.
The chamber of commerce and industries says that Afghanistan would make millions of dollars annually from exporting saffron, fresh and dried fruit to Jordan. Afghan traders in return would import plastic products from the country.
“If deal is made, we will have 20 to 30 million dollars business in a year with Jordan. It has market that needs lobbying by the government. We need marketing to introduce our products in the Jordanian markets,” said Khan Jan Alokozai, deputy head of chamber of commerce and industries.
