KABUL: At least 12pro-government militia fighters who were serving as members of the Afghan local police, along with their weapons and ammunitions have been defected to the Taliban group in western Farah province, provincial official said Wednesday.
A member of Farah Provincial Council, Dadullah Qani said that over ten local police of Bagh-e-Pull checkpoint have joined the Taliban rank.
However, according to him, another two policemen joint militants on Wednesday morning in Dehak village of Farah province.
Meanwhile, a resident of the area Omid, confirmed that over 12 polices have caught up with the Taliban group in Farah province.
Omid, a resident, also confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News, a local news agency, that 12 policemen had joined the Taliban ranks. The development was also confirmed by Taliban spokesman ZabihullahMujahid. The claimed the Afghan local policed surrendered to them.
On the other hand, a group of seven members of Taliban fighters reintegrated into civil society by joining the Afghan peace process in western Ghor province.
Provincial Spokesman Abdul Hai Khatibi appreciated their reintegration confirming a group of seven members led by Maulvi Abdul Jabar, has joined the peace process.
Surrendering of Taliban to Afghan forces, and recuperation of Afghan forces to the Taliban have come in the wake of ongoing peace talks between US and Taliban members, and forthcoming intra-Afghan talks with Taliban set to likely happen at end of April.
