KABUL: NATO Senior Civilian Representative Sir Nicholas Kay on Wednesday returned from his trip to southern Kandahar province, where he held talks with high-ranking officials including provincial police chief, provincial government representatives, religious and tribal leaders, women, and civil society to hear about what peace looks like to Kandaharis.
“This is a crucial moment for Afghanistan and Kandahar is an important part of the answer to 40 years of conflict,” NATO in Afghanistan wrote in its twitter account.
“I want to encourage all to support peace locally and nationally, and to reassure you that at the end this will be Afghan owned and Afghan led peace process” Nicholas said.
Afghan delegation for peace talks with Taliban has finalized, where 250 Afghans from all walk of society will take part in Qatar talks to convince Taliban to shun violence.
The ongoing peace talks brokered by US, with already concluding fifth round of peace talks with Taliban in Doha, where both sides claimed progress on key issues.
At the same time many politicians expressed concern over failure of Doha talks, where it could be taken as great opportunity to bring peace in the war-hit country. Pessimistically, failure of Doha talks may escalate conflict further.
