KABUL: The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said this week
that United States is trying to end the longest war in United States history in
Afghanistan, the US Department of State said in a statement,
Addressing a ceremony at Texas A&M University, Pompeo said that the US
officials are trying to broker peace between Taliban and the Afghan
government.
“We’re trying to end the longest war in United States history and save the
lives of Afghans and American soldiers alike,” said Pompeo.
“I spoke with our ambassador, who is working to bring peace in Afghanistan.
There’s another graduate of this fine institution, a young lady named Melissa.
She is supporting our work there to broker peace between the Taliban and the
Afghan Government,” Pompeo added.
The call for end to the Afghan war has come when the Taliban group recently announced their spring offensive, and already stormed serval checkpoints, and other security installations as part of their war.
At the same time, Afghan and US authorities are making all-out efforts to reach a peace agreement with Taliban. A 250-member delegation has listed by the Afghan government and political parties to attend the 19 April Doha meeting with Taliban in order to find a logical end to the longest war in Afghanistan.
