KABUL: At least 250 people have died and 300 more wounded by the flash floods recently targeted different provinces including the capital Kabul, an official said Saturday.
Najib Aqa Fahim, state minister for national disaster management, said that also 15 people had gone missing during the flooding, while more than 33,000 houses were destroyed in 24 provinces.
He added that 6,000 of families whose houses were destroyed were provided with government’s aids in cash, 19,000 with foodstuff and another 16,000 ones with non-foodstuff.
“The donation process is continuing and there is no exception. Anywhere that seems needy, we will provide with donations,” he said.
The comments come as those Kabul residents who have been affected by the floods, say that they have received no aids.
“I live close to the Kabul River. My house is full of water that overflowed the river and has been partly damaged. I could only evacuate my family, leaving everything back. Nobody has assisted me,” said Mojibollah, a Kabul resident. He added that he would not be able to rebuild his house without government help.
“Nobody has helped me and nobody has paid attention to the situation of my house that has been damaged by flood. My sheep have gone missing,” said Atiqollah, a resident of the Shirin Tagab district in northern province of Faryab.
President Ghani has ordered a 15,000 Afs donation to those whose houses have been completely damaged, 7,500 Afs to those with partly damaged houses, 50,000 Afs to the families of dead and 25,000 Afs to injured people.
