KABUL: The forthcoming Consultative Loya Jirga would be held on its due time (29 April), said President Ghani’s Special Envoy for Peace Umer Daudzai, hinting toward preparations which is in full swing and be held with or without Taliban participations.
Briefing newsmen on Sunday, Daudzai said at least 3,000 people will take part in Jirga, terming it a national consensus to get rid of current problems.
“All effort on table to reach this consensus with the presence of the Taliban, and if Taliban are unwilling to attend the Jirga, the Afghan masses will reach this consensus,” he told the newsmen.
Talking about importance of Jirga in Afghanistan, he said it is similar to referendums in other countries. Taking about peace efforts, he said opportunity for peace must not be wasted.
“We are favoring venue like Qatar and government is ready to attend such peace talks,” he said, adding the planned meeting between Afghan delegation and Taliban negotiation members delayed to unknown time.
This comes as many influential figures, including the country’s Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has boycotted the Jirga, labeling it an electoral campaign in favor of Presidential Palace.
Seven presidential candidates also opposed the Jirga, giving similar viewpoints which is nothing but an electoral campaign.
