KABUL: Former President, Hamid Karzai says that the intra-Afghan dialogue on Afghan peace was imminent to be held in the Persian Gulf state of Qatar.
The meeting between Taliban representatives and politicians from Kabul scheduled to be held on April 19 in Doha, was canceled after President Ghani’s government rejected a list received from Qatari authorities on the participants.
If would be held, it would be the first face to face meeting between Ghani administration and Taliban who call it as a US “puppet”.
“The second intra-Afghan meeting which was already organized, will be likely held in the near future in Qatar,” Karzai addressed the Eighth Moscow Conference on International Security.
“This is a kind of comprehensive format and should be continued,” Karzai was quoted by Russian News Agency of Sputnik as saying.
The Eighth Moscow Conference on International Security began Wednesday with the participation of more than 1,000 people from 100 countries including defense ministers from 30 states to assess international security particularly in the Middle East.
The Qatar-hosted intra-Afghan dialogue is a follow up of a similar meeting held in February in Moscow.
The government offered a list of 250-person delegation to Qatar, but was rejected by Doha and Taliban negotiators.
Karzai also welcomed the US, Russia and China trilateral meeting on Afghanistan in Moscow, calling it a good step for ensuring security in his country.
The trilateral meeting is set to be held today (Thursday).
