KABUL: The Turkmen-US political consultations were held in Ashgabat, Trend reports referring to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry on Friday. The US delegation was led by Mark Moody, representative of the Office of Central Asian Affairs at the US Department of State.
The regional issues, including the efforts of the countries to resolve the situation in Afghanistan, were discussed at the meeting.
The sides stressed the importance of cooperation within regional cooperation in “C5 + 1” format, which aims at expanding the intra-regional relations with the Central Asian countries. The mechanisms for cooperation in the field security and economics were outlined.
Ashgabat periodically supports rendering of large-scale and targeted international economic assistance to Afghanistan, primarily, through the involvement of this country in the implementation of major infrastructure projects in the energy and transport sectors.
The projects for the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline (TAPI), the construction of power lines and fiber-optic communications along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP), the construction of railways from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan can be mentioned as examples.
