KABUL: A number of members of parliament accuse the government of interfering in the parliament affairs, calling it “injurious” for the legislative independence.
They said Saturday that the government makes obstacles for the resolving of problems made following election of parliament speaker last month that faced an impasse.
Legislators said they would not let the government interfere in parliament’s affairs and overshadow its independence.
The speaker problem was believed to be resolved after the Eid festivity, but the lawmakers could not reach an agreement in the Saturday session.
The government is reportedly trying to play a mediating role to solve problems over parliament speaker.
But the lawmakers warned that any kind of government involvement would be called an injurious interference in parliament’s independence.
Lawmakers Mir Rahman Rahmani and Kamal Naser Osuli are the two persons competing for speaker post.
