KABUL: The women rights department in northern Faryabprovince has expressed concern overintensifying of violence against women, saying women arevictims of family disputes cause by awkwardculture and social taboos in the society.
Head of Provincial Women Department, Maria Noori said over 102 cases of violence against womenhave so far been registered.
This comes as on Saturday a university student committed suicide due to family violence in the province, where according to Noori, the victim was not living with her biological parents.
“The parents should prevent for adopting children because in one hand, they feel hate of being adopted and on the other, the poverty and bad traditionlead to family violence,” she said.
The culture of patriotic, force marriages, stubborn grip of male pride, expensive paying for wedding, wasting money in culturalholidays are the social taboos are behind family dispute and violencein the society.
Meanwhile, head of the human rights commission for Faryab, said the violence gage against women have been intensifying, but the tribal elders do not allow the human rights activists to registered the cases.
Afghanistan is one of those countries, where women have little rights and freedom, as nearly a month ago, MeenaMangal, a cultural advisor to the parliament and TV presenter was gunned down in the capital Kabul.
