KABUL: China is likely to host an international meeting regarding Afghan peace process, in which US, Europe, India and other officials from neighboring countries of Afghanistan would participate to exchange views, sources said Sunday.
A well-placed government official, who wished to go unnamed, , told Pajhwok Afghan News that work the plan was underway but details in this regard were yet to be specified.
Also, another source, who also wanted to beanonym, said that China would hold an international conference over Afghan peace process in the upcoming weeks.
Meanwhile, a political analyst, ZabihullahFarhang said people would tight hope on the peace if the Afghan officials participate in the meeting. “US and Afghan government emphasize on a truce agreement, while Europe and India is backing it,” he said.
He believes that Russia has ignored the Taliban militant’s background as trying to introduce the group under its own control. “This is an obscure policy by the China, as it doesn’t clarify its stands against Taliban, while calling foreign troop’s withdrawal a threat to the regional security,” he said.
He said the talks over ceasefire would not be agreed in this meeting.
This comes after, two meeting were held in Moscow under the title of intra-Afghan dialogues once in early February and second in late May this year, where Afghan and Taliban officials met and discussed peace talks.
Meanwhile, US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation, ZalmayKhalilzadwill go to Qatar for seventh round of round of peace talks with the Taliban officials.
Also, anon going conference underway in Islamabad, in which some Afghan politician including Hizb-e-Isalmi leader Gulbedin Hekmatyar, former Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor, presidential hopeful Haneef Atmar and a number of other figures were participated to exchange views with the Pakistani officials over Afghan peace process.
