Armed gang busted in Kabul

KABUL: Police forces conducted a crackdown on an armed gang in Kabul that where behind high criminal activities caused deterioration of security situation in the capital city, said police officials.

The Ministry of Interior said that the police arrested five members of the gang in Gulai Dawa Khana area in 3rd district of the province.

Police released the identities of the detained robbers as Shoaib, Farhad, Ahmadshah, Taza Gul and Ajmal. The individuals were involved in robberies in different areas of the capital such as 5th, 6th, 13th, and 18th police districts.

Criminal activities have been on the raise since last year in the capital. Chief of Box Federation, Hamidullah Hamidi, was gun downed on Sunday.

Earlier, Interior Ministry had revealed private citizens owned as many as 80,000 illegal arms in Kabul, calling it a factor of the deterioration of security situation in the capital.

Residents of Kabul are deeply concerned with the high criminal records in the city, where robbers had upper hand and could freely operate to kill, kidnap, and to rob.

In December 2018, the ministry had released identities of 1,500 individuals suspected of criminal activities who thought to own 30,000 illegal arms.

The Afghan National Police (ANP) struggle to provide safety for the war-torn residents of Kabul. The criminal activities have turned the city into a capital of crimes.

In addition to suicide bombings, the threat of criminals sparks out in the city. Fighting the criminals has become a new headache for the embattled Afghan police forces.  

The police force is already bloodied by insurgent groups, including the Taliban and the Islamic State (IS), which is also known as Daesh terrorist. The police force has the highest causality among security forces in the frontline of ruthless war.
