KABUL: A large number of residents in northern Baghlan province took to the streets on Tuesday to give vent to their anger over martyrdom of at least seven members of a single family in an airstrike probably conducted by foreign forces in Pull-e-Khumri, the provincial capital city.
Provincial Governor, Farid Ahmad Basim has confirmed the incident, but had no idea that whether Afghan Air Forces, or Foreign troops conducted the airstrike.
But the residents had brought the dead bodies into highway which has blocked traffic for passengers. They were also chanted anti-government and Afghan and foreign forces slogans.
“Drone strike bombed Ismail’s house, and killed his wife along with her six children,” said a protestor who wished to be unnamed. “We staged protest against civilian casualties, but air forces approached and opened fire, one of the protestors wounded,” he added.
In the meantime, three doctors and patients were killed in an airstrikes conducted on a hospital in Jirga district of central Maidan Wardak province.
Ministry of Defense in a statement informed of serious investigation to be taken on the incidents.
However, the ministry said the security forces always tried best to prevent civilian casualties in the operation.
Civilians have become the main victim of ongoing war in Afghanistan. Noting high toll, Kabul delegates and Taliban members, participating in two-day Intra-Afghan Peace Conference, co-hosted by Germany and Qatar in Doha, have agreed for zero violence against civilians, where Taliban pledged not to target public areas that cause casualties.
