KABUL: At least 26 Taliban fighters have been killed and a big explosive cache was demolished in a fresh crackdown carried out by the Afghan security forces in southern Ghazni province, official said Saturday.
Commandos and National Directorate of Security (NDS) Special Unit 703 with support from the Air Force carried out operation in Moqor district, in which one of the major strongholds of Taliban insurgents and a major explosive cache of the group were destroyed, said a statement issued by Special Operation Corps.
According to the statement, the explosive warehouse was controlled by Hafiz Jahangir – Head of Taliban’s military operations in the area.
During the operations, two of the terrorists’ bases were demolished along with 120 barrels full of explosive materials, around 2000 kilograms of primary explosive substances, 26 motorbikes and one Corolla vehicle, the statement added.
“The materials were transferred to Ghazni from the neighboring country. Skilled explosive experts of the terrorist group of ‘Al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent’ were to use the materials to prepare explosives for attacks in the capital and major cities across Afghanistan, the statement added.
The terrorists’ sustained heavy losses during these operations as 26 of them were killed during operation in the district, it added.
Unfortunately, one brave ANDSF member sustained injuries during operation, the military corps lamented.
