KABUL: The army freed 13 civilians held in a Taliban jail during an operation in the southern province of Helmand, the ministry of defense said.
The ministry said Friday in a statement that the operation was launched Thursday night in the Din Mohammad village of the Nahr-e-Seraj district.
It added that the operation was launched by the army’s Special Force unit, during which a notable number of weapons and munitions were seized.
Provincial Council also confirmed the operation, saying all the freed inmates were civilians had being held by the militants for several months.
The ministry of defense said in its statement that the army had freed inmates both civilians and security forces from Taliban detention several times this year.
