KABUL: Taliban militants took at least 35 young men all civilians hostage in Ghazni province, local officials and residents said.
The incident happened Thursday night in the Deh Hajji village of the Khwaja Omari district and the insurgents took these people after attacking the village.
Residents said on Friday that the civilians were taken to an unknown place, adding that they didn’t know the reason of the abduction.
Meanwhile, District Governor, Ahmad Zia Yaqoobi, said that the hostages were taken to the Rashidan district that is under Taliban control.
He said that he didn’t know about their condition, but added that local elders and influential people were trying to mediate for their release.
Taliban have not yet commented on the incident, but a member of provincial council Hassan Reza Yousufi said that Taliban took these youths to prevent a likely uprising against them.
Separately, local residents took guns against Taliban in the Deh Hajji village after a last week drone attack that killed five civilians and a number of Taliban fighters.
