KABUL: Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah has expressed hope that ceasefire will be observed during intra-Afghan peace talks.
Speaking in an interview with France 24, Abdullah said that he wanted the revival of peace talks with the Taliban, which were halted by US President Donald Trump last month.
“We want the revival of talks and the process and at the same time coupled with that or parallel to that reduction of violence and hopefully during the talks between the Afghans a ceasefire,” Abdullah said.
He also said that the presence of Afghan government representatives will be necessary once intra-Afghan talks start, saying without it, it will not lead to a peaceful settlement.
“It is not just the Afghan government, it is the political parties, civil society and part of people which are living in this side of war which the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan together with the Taliban,” he said.
