KABUL: The Islamic State (IS), also known as Daesh extremist group is expanding its footprint in northern Faryab province, said top provincial governor official. A large number of foreign terrorists affiliated to Daesh had recently been seen in several district of the province.
Provincial Governor, Naqibullah Fayaq said Daesh rebels alongside with their families have been stationed in Kohistan and Grizwan districts of the province. “Daesh affiliated members have come here (Faryab) from Ghor province,” he added.
However, Fayaq said activities of the Daesh militants had been reduced in the past three or four years, but the group has once again making efforts to make a footprint in different parts of the province.
“In Almar district, over 40 families have been settled, and the majority of them are Daesh members,” he said.
This comes as earlier there was report about heavy clashes took place between the Taliban fighters and Daesh extremists.
Meanwhile, the US President Donald Trump has confirmed killing of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the founder and leader of the ISIS extremist group in operation conducted by American Special Forces in Syria. The Afghan government in a statement has praised the Washington’s efforts regarding countering the terrorism and called the death of Baghdadi as a great victory and success to eliminate the terrorist threat across the world.
