KABUL: Some political leaders criticize President Ghani for what they allege “monopoly” of the upcoming intra-Afghan negotiations in the Chinese capital, saying that the talks should not be controlled by the government.
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of Hezb-e-Islami party, who is competing in the presidential contests, said Tuesday that neither he nor other political leaders would attend the government-controlled Beijing negotiations in which government delegation and politicians are to meet with Taliban negotiators.
He said that most of government’s delegation members are war supporters.
Another politician Mohammad Mohaqeq who leads the Wahdat-e-Islami party, criticized the state ministry for peace, saying that competent people should represent the people of Afghanistan in the negotiations.
Hekmatyar said that all the members of delegation are government officials who support the war continuation in the country.
Political leaders also accused President Ghani of not allowing his political opposition to attend the meeting.
Government officials are reportedly concerned over an interim government offer by politicians in the Beijing negotiations.
Abdul Rashid Dostum, leader of Jonbesh-e-Milli Islami party and first vice president, said in the northern province of Jawzjan that the delegation members should be authorized for decision making.
The Beijing negotiation which its clear date is not yet clear, is the third round of the intra-Afghan dialogues. Taliban negotiators met with politicians from Kabul including former president Hamid Karzai in Russia’s Moscow and in Qatar. Taliban have so far refused requests to hold talks with the government, calling it a “puppet” regime.
