KABUL: A powerful tribal elder and former member of parliament, Zaher Qadir accused the neighboring state of Pakistan of being behind the killing of Japanese physician Tetsu Nakamura who was killed 10 days ago in the eastern province of Nangarhar, the birthplace of Qadir.
Nakamura had been serving in development projects in the eastern region for several years. He was shot dead along with his companions by unknown gunmen on December 4th in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital.
Nangarhar residents call for investigation of Nakamura’s murder.
The province’s tribal elders, civil society activists and scholars say that Nakamura’s murder was organized outside the country.
Qadir said Friday that kidnapping and target killing cases had increased in the province compared to previous years. He slammed government officials for remaining neutral against the criminal events.
He said the government needed to take serious measures in security of the people and foreigners living in Nangarhar who serve the people of Afghanistan.
