KABUL: The Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister called on President Ashraf Ghani in the presidential palace on Monday, wherein they exchanged views on different issues including war on terror in the region and the peace process in Afghanistan.
Liu Jianchao told President Ghani that China is ready to support political stability in Afghanistan. He welcomed president Ghani’s recent remarks at Munich Security conference over compact anti-terror efforts.
President Ghani said that enhanced diplomacy is needed among parliamentarians, civil society activists and youth of the two countries. “We are in fight against the elements that are a common threat for security of Afghanistan and China, and the elements that kill innocent people,” Ghani said.
He added that the international community’s cooperation is needed to fight the terror menace in the region.
In the meantime, the Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister told a press conference in Kabul that his government would try all means to make the Afghan-led peace process successful.
He said that China supports the reconciliation process which is led by Afghans and owned by the people of Afghanistan. “China is trying to engage all the parties concerned in order to bring everyone to the table of negotiations,” he added.
He stated that China supports the Afghan government in its efforts to maintain stability and forward the peace process and economic development. “We will leave no stone unturned to help Afghans in bringing peace and stability in their country as well as in making Afghanistan and developed and prosperous country,” he said. “We believe that the layout for the settlement of the Afghan issue will be most preferably the reconciliation that is based on the recommendation. I have seen the legacy of the war in this country and it is really sad to see Afghanistan affect from the war. Therefore I think Afghan people should have access to a better life, which should be different from pervious one and come out of the tragedy and legacy of the war,” he opined.
He insisted that China is committed to work with the Afghan government and the people for peace and stability in Afghanistan and for providing a better life for Afghans. “We hope that china will continue a constructive and positive role in pushing forward the national reconciliation of Afghanistan,” he added.
Hinting at a trilateral meeting among Afghanistan, China and Pakistan, the Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister said that the three sides discussed the issues related to the region, the Afghan-led peace process, and strengthening cooperation among the three countries.
He mentioned during the trilateral meeting, the three parties shared common views on supporting peace and stability in Afghanistan, and agreed that peace would not only benefit the Afghan people and Afghanistan, but also would benefit the region including china and Pakistan. “We discussed our relations and we agreed to hold another round of trilateral meeting in near future,” he said. “The other issue which we exchanged views on was war on terror as the three countries are victims of terrorism and terrorist attacks, which we believe we require common and joint efforts to eliminate the terror menace,” he added.
During the visit, Liu Jianchao met other high ranking officials of the national unity government, wherein they talked about different issues including improving political and economic ties between Kabul and Beijing.
