KABUL: The ‘Stability and Partnership’ electoral team headed by CEO Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday demanded the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to re-conduct the vote recount and audit process in 27 provinces of the country.
Fairadoon Khwazoon, spokesperson for Abdullah’s team, said that a process where the observers of this team hadn’t been present wasn’t unacceptable and thus the vote recount should be carried out once again in 27 provinces.
Khwazoon warned of another electoral deadlock if the IEC didn’t address their demand.
However, Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, the spokesperson for the IEC, said the vote recount in 27 had been conducted in presence of observers of some electoral teams and watchdogs. He added that with the completion of this process in the remaining seven process, the preliminary results would be announced.
This comes as the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Sunday officially began the vote recount and audit process in remaining seven provinces and would reportedly be completed in the next two days. This is while Abdullah asked his followers on Friday to allow the IEC to audit or recount votes in the remaining seven provinces.
Abdullah’s supporters have been demanding invalidation of 300,000 votes and had thus stopped the recount and audit in Jawzjan, Faryab, Badakhshan, Takhar, Baghlan and Sar-i-Pul provinces.
The Presidential Elections were conducted on September 28 and the preliminary results of these polls are yet to be announced.
